However, as we age and our biological function slows down, our skin produces less lubrication, and balanced skin starts to become drier. Dry skin has underactive sebaceous glands and feels dry to the touch. It doesn't produce enough sebum to protect and hydrate itself. Dry skin is characterised by a lack of moisture in the epidermis and an inability to retain moisture. It is also identified by its dull, rough, and scaly quality.
